Shanghai - Day 11

Revamping the apartment. This apartment used to be my grandma’s apartment. It’s not in such great condition, and this summer I plan on bringing it up to speed. I went to IKEA today, which is called “Yi Jia” in Chinese (hehe). It was extremely crowded inside, and I really liked watching and listening to arguments in Shanghainese, Putonghua, Spanish, Hindi, and Arabic. It was really interesting to watch people debate about what kind of couch or light fixture to buy. The new rug and the new trashcan are my favorite new things in the apartment. I want to go for a red and black look.

Later I went to Carrefour, and it was also pretty crowded. It is about 3 stories total, with a special food court on the bottom. The organization of Carrefour really fascinates me. They put the food court on ground level, then it goes to cleaning/houseware products, and then the top level is food. What I really like about Carrefour is the flat escalators, so that you can bring your shopping cart to each floor.

Ah, the pleasures of shopping in Shanghai. When I got home I was in a cleaning mood and decided to clean throw away some old things and clean out some cabinets. It’s really fun finding old things, like I found an old stuff animal that my mom bought for my grandma when she was in the hospital, and I remember that my grandma and I really liked to play with stuff animals when I was in Shanghai about 9 years ago. It brought a lot of good memories back.
